Jeff Carlson – Principal
Carlson moved to Arizona in 1980 and started his career with Peat Marwick (KPMG) as a CPA in the audit division with clients in the real estate, gaming, health care and high tech industries.
Professional History and Accomplishments
Carlson served as a senior executive for two public homebuilders, most recently as the Phoenix Division President for Meritage Homes. During 2006, his division closed over 1,800 homes and was by far the company’s most profitable division.
JD Powers Customer Satisfaction scores were dramatically improved under his leadership. Previously, Carlson was in charge of land acquisitions for both Meritage and William Lyon Homes. In mid-2007, Carlson left Meritage to pursue more entrepreneurial ventures associated with the growing distress in the real estate space.
Carlson owns JDC & Associates, a real estate brokerage firm active in Phoenix real estate for the past 14 years.
In 1998 Carlson founded a high-end custom homebuilding company, which was later sold to the employees in 2001. All facets of this company (sales, construction, financing, and customer service) were managed hands-on by Carlson.
During the mid-1990’s Carlson directed the asset management arm of a privately held firm specializing in purchasing distressed portfolios of loans and REO.
In the early 1990’s, Carlson was the Assistant Director for the Resolution Trust Corp (RTC) where he hired, trained and supervised over 50 asset managers and a real estate portfolio of $10 billion. He chaired a team (officially known as the RTC Swat Team Chairman) with $100 million in authority to settle the largest workouts facing the RTC. At the time Lincoln Savings (Phoenix) was taken over by the FDIC, Carlson was in charge of non-performing loans where he gained extensive bankruptcy, legal and workout experience.
From 1984 to 1990, Carlson was a senior executive with American Continental serving in many capacities, including master plan community development and sales and loan portfolio management and workouts.
